Getting my act together
One of my new year's resolutions was to dedicate one day per week to my interior design diploma. I'm doing the Open Learning Diploma with KLC School of Design based in Chelsea. My resolution started very well in January, but 3 months later, with work commitments at F-Stop Academy - website development, trade shows, budgeting, online marketing, customer service and managing people - my resolution seems like a distant memory.
I've been working on module 4 (of 6) for, probably 15 months. It has not been immensely difficult, just time consuming and the biggest issue I have is getting into a creative 'zone' to allow me to finish the very last task, designing and sourcing hard materials for a high end hair salon.
So, tomorrow, I have earmarked an Interior Design day and I shall be busy sourcing images, sample options and colour schemes for my contemporary Moroccan inspired salon.
I shall post the results soon.

So the contemporary Moroccan inspired theme, was shelved. I just wasn't 'feeling' it, it was too strong a theme to pull off well. Although the rich, warm, colour scheme would have been welcoming, with the salon being in the middle of a busy town and with a affluent, young clientele, I felt a Moroccan scheme would not be fulfilling the brief adequately. Dark rich reds, oranges, dark wood and heavy metals lends itself to a traditional theme that could be pretty dramatic. In a hair salon, you just want to relax and unwind in a easy going environment.
So, as a result of being inspired by this lovely Summer weather, and the thought of being away in a beautiful coastal destination, I've gone for a free and easy, beach inspired theme. I shall mount the samples and I'll post a photo and my justification for them when it's complete, but for now - here are the samples:

Oooops, I forgot the floor sample!!!! Here we go...

Yippee! My results for this module are back and I got an A (90%). I'm over the moon, as I received a B grade for Modules 1 to 3. It's given me a much needed boost to crack on with Module 5.
