An oasis in London

This weekend is a bank holiday in the UK, so we get Monday as an extra day off. Wonderful I hear you say, and it would be but we have a big black cloud hovering over us, literally.  We Brits welcome these holidays with an air of cynicism, because despite all our excitement and preparation for making the most of the 3 days, it is always marred by a bloody great downpour.

So with this in mind, I shall be spending my Sunday in an undercover shopping mall with my dearest girlfriends as we are shopping for our birthday friendship bracelets from each other at Links. The rest of the time I will be cooped up inside, perhaps making a start on making the pelmet destined for my living room window.  I've had the fabric for sometime, I just need to motivate myself and get cracking.

At dank times like this, an awe inspiring garden is the perfect antidote.  Here's fashion designer Ben de Lisi's London garden, all mediterranean and a perfect example of bringing the inside outside.  What a cosy, enveloping little sun trap. The whitewashed timber and big statement planting was created by his partner Gerardo who runs The Chelsea Gardener (aparently). Personally, it could do with a few shots of colour with some fancy blooms but, as I say, that's just a personal thing.

Have a happy weekend lovelies, I hope you have a fun filled one x

Well I can't say I'm not jealous of your extra day off, but what a bummer about the rain! I always hate it when it rains on the weekends (which it's been doing a lot of recently) but is nice during the week. Like, of course it has to be sunny and nice when I can't be out and enjoying it, right?

Your shopping trip with your girlfriends sounds adorable! Do make sure to tweet us a picture of what you ended up buying! And I love that outdoors space, but let's be honest, do you really keep a cowskin rug outside? If I had two Bertoia chairs and a Saarinen table, I'd hardly keep them outside exposed to the elements!

Hope your weekend was wonderful! Happy Monday!

Ha. I'm officially sick of this weather. It is May and no sun ray in site. Booked a flight to the South of France as couldn't stand it any longer... I bet I'll have the same weather in Berlin next week.... pray it might be sunny just for a couple of days and planning to cycle around with the girls.

Hope Westfield Stratford was fun. Bet it was heaving. The West London one always is when the weather is shite.

Not so sure about Ben de Lisi's outside space. Probably prefer mine!

See you in the forum. Wish the members online thing would be put back. Must inquire about it.
Ciao. x

Oh, sorry to hear about all the rain. Hopefully it lets up soon. There is nothing worse than having a long holiday weekend covered in poor weather. Well, the bright side, maybe you'll get some indoor things done (KLC studies?).
The garden is lovely...Though, the furniture is what caught my eye. Do you think they are really using Bertoia wire chairs and a Saarinen table outside?! Wow, I wonder what the furniture looks like inside the house. :)

@Erin - piccie tweeted for you :-) Friendship bracelets, we are feeling the love on our 40th's this year. Ben's probably got enough money to have lots of designer furniture and be able to leave it outside without even thinking about it

@Tina - SOF good for you! Big envy, where are you staying ? Every other european city has better weather than us so Berlin won't be a problem weather wise. Westfield was heaving, we chose the wrong day as there was an Olympic opening ceremony rehearsal, with paying audiences too. Bad move on our part, but we still managed to have some fun. Good luck with the forum thing, I think may be it is too hard to police so they left it off for Wednesdays only.

@Theresa - No KLC work despite the gloom, but plenty of other work and gardening and shopping :-) Ben's home is quite simple, lots of mid-century modern furniture and neutral palettes - http://www.housetohome.co.uk/house-tour/picture/step-inside-ben-de-lisis-south-london-home/1

I was underwhelmed by the interior of his house actually. I agree the garden needs some more blooms. If I had a garden I'd actually want greenery in it!
I can't believe Tina swore!
Have to say Sam, I don't know how you can do Westfield, it makes me feel sick I can't bear it. I went to the ShepBush one out of curiousity and it was just awful. Made me feel stressed and depressed.
But I love Links of London and I think that's so lovely that you all got together and chose presents, that's really sweet.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about the weather - everyone back home has been talking about it, it sounds dreadful. I hope it improves soon.

I agree about this garden, especially the bleached timber. It looks like the perfect little spot for a lazy weekend coffee!
