The Kafka House

A couple of days ago we received an email into the F-Stop Academy office from an American film maker who has taken our online skills training courses and has built himself a successful video production business.  We are really pleased to be part of Clint's progression and proud that he is now creating accomplished films like this one below, for clients in the high end commercial and residential real estate markets.

The moment I saw this film I just knew you guys would be really interested in seeing it too.  This fabulous cliffside home, located in La Jolla CA, won the grand prize of the San Diego Home/Garden Magazine Home of the Year for 2012.  The architecture and finish of this modern house is exemplary and the interior design (Spanish interior designers), although on the more simple side for my taste, is very classy and makes creative use of organic materials.  My personal favourite design feature is the window that takes on one corner of the house below the kitchen wall cabinets.  And check out that alluring view from the fabulous balcony.  Cocktail anyone?

I know you Californian ladies get to see these views all the time and I have to admit I'm very envious of you all. I would absolutely love to experience this climate every day.

I'm not going to say any more about the property and simply allow the film to do its thing.  Please share your favourite part of this property though.

Many thanks to Clint for allowing me to use his film.  If you are interested in his video production services, you can reach him here.

Wow great video, think I need to do Den's course :)

That house is amazing, the main features that stand out to me are all about the view, the window in the kitchen you mentioned, the huge window in the bathroom and the fabulous outside living spaces.

The inside does feel a little too designed and not lived in, but I love the finish of the steel balustrade and the shadows created by those wall tiles.

Lastly please could I have that succulent garden at home, oh and the weather to keep it happy! xx

Helloooo gorgeous. I love the ginormous shower in the bathroom (though I'd be freaked out to shower next to windows that large) and the kitchen-dining room-outdoor-terrace area. I love that the sliding doors slide all the way off to make it one giant, indoor-outdoor space. I think that's an Alexander Girard print in the dining room, too? Either way it's awesome. I especially loved when the footage morphed from day to night! The place looks even more beautiful at night, if that's possible. Thanks for sharing, Sam!

Ok, let me just pick myself up from the floor. I somehow fell out of my chair.
For starters, the view. Imagine waking up to that view everyday. The home fits perfectly with its surroundings - open floor plan, full sliding doors for indoor/outdoor living, and an abundant use of natural wood. My favorite little part was the red bar stools in the kitchen. Love a little pop of red.
Clint did a great job with the video. My husband is in real estate and I'm going to share this with him. He'll really appreciate it. Your academy is definitely helping to develop some talent. Nice job!

Thanks for the kind words. As follow up to this video, I also produced a video interviewing the owners, architects, builders and woodwork specialists, which takes you behind the scenes on the design and how this home was built. Hopefully you can link to it at
