Drinks trolley addiction

I'm now the proud owner of a rather fabulous drinks trolley (if I had Erins accomplished skills I'd have photoshopped out the socket from the wall behind):

I've been banging on about getting a trolley (or bar cart for my friends across the pond) for ages now, I have this perfect little wall in my kitchen, that was crying out to be filled with something fun, fashionable, kitsch, retro and cool.  After lots of searching, I purchased it on ebay on Thursday (and no, I didn't have to bid for it, just a straight purchase, at a possibly higher price than it should have been), just a day later, the excitement and exhilaration of opening the parcel, putting the trolley up and wheeling it around the kitchen was further heightened by the trip to my local supermarket to purchase some of the various liqueurs, spirits and mixers that adorn the lower tray.  I'm sorry but I'm unable to get across in a few words, how euphoric the whole exercise was.  Call me mad, the kids and husband think so.  My youngest said it was really crap (exact word) and why would I want to spend my money on that rubbish. I take no notice.

I now need to find myself an ice bucket and some art to hang above it.  I was thinking this perhaps:

Joking!  But I'd really love this blueprint, I just cannot justify paying what Crate & Barrel want for it:

Plus, Den and I managed to make a small dent in the Disaronno last night, to celebrate and welcome the trolley into our home :-)  So what's your favourite tipple?

The huge trend for all things retro and kitsch has me in a vice-like grip at the moment.  I'm feeling quite nostalgic and anything that rocks the 70's vibe, brings about fond memories of fun times, carefree Summer play days, and a simple yet functional childhood home.

It's a brave move and I've probably gone a bit soft but let's share my first school photograph. Chalk ridden blackboards, wonky fringes, patterned acrylic jumpers, pointy collars, white knee high socks and sandals, oh joy!  But can you spot me?

Any way, I digress... back to retro and kitsch.  Since Christmas, I've been searching hard for a hostess come drinks trolley. I'm so very excited about this project, it needs to tick a couple of boxes; it must be glamorous and shiny but it can have some colour too.  Ebay (yes, ebay again) has some great examples but they've either been on sale too far from where I live or I've bid unsuccessfully.  They are hot property at the moment, everyone wants to get their hands on one. It would be marvelous to bag an original brass pineapple ice bucket to go with it but ebay bids on these novelty items are reaching double figures, it's cut throat stuff.

Here's a run down of the type of drinks trollies on my wishlist:

And if you prefer a little less bling, how about this G Plan trolley? Complete with aforementioned pineapple:

Cocktail anyone?

All things bright and shiny and beautiful

It's not a day for interior design, but as it's month end I've done all the financials for F-Stop I need to do and so I'm on to tell you about the items I've purchased this week for my living room.

If you know me well enough, you'll know I have a penchant for shiny things - metals, glass, precious stones (mmmm....), if it's reflective than I can pretty much guarantee that I will like it.  If you are up for a challenge then feel free to prove me wrong.

Ebay shopping is one of my regular addictions, I'm forever on the lookout for furniture pieces - tables, chairs, lights, china, glassware and any unique find that catches my eye.  In the past I've bought items such as canvas paintings, plate chargers, glasses, crockery, fabric, chairs, a desk, but my latest find is a copper topped side table, costing just a tad more than my favourite soya latte from Starbucks.

For my second shiny find, something I've had my eye on for a couple of weeks and it's from one of my favourite online stores - Rockett St George.  This wall sconce will feature nicely in my dark inky living room alcove and it's a great price too.  I have a lot of candles, this will be the sixth one in the living room, they create such a warm cosy ambience, much nicer than low energy light bulbs.

So I must get the painting finished this weekend and then it's on to the exciting stuff; placing furniture and choosing new soft furnishings.
